What Year Is It?
Filed under (Random Mutations) by The Cubelodyte on January 2, 2007 @ 02:51 pm

It’s going to take at least a month for me to get 2006 out of my system. In the meantime, I’ll be busy voiding checks and initialing the scratched-out dates on God only knows how many forms until 2007 finally etches a permanent groove into my gray matter.

I know I’m not alone in this sort of behavior, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating when I fail to remember what freakin’ year it is.

While I haven’t had call to start shredding half my checkbook, It did take me a solid five minutes or so this morning, staring at a file save dialog, to remember what day it was. Not that I didn’t know it was Tuesday, I just couldn’t remember which day in December it was. The Thirty-which? The Eleventy-fifth? Finally, it dawned on me that it was January, not December, So I cheerfully changed the date string in my filename to 060101 (damn it) 060102 (argh!) 070102.

Maybe if I laid off of the high-octane nog at the end of the year I would actually get this straight for once.

This is why I started using Julian Dates on my checks just to avoid such mishaps!
