We tried a regimen of drugs including a desensitizing wash and anti-inflammatory steroid injections, but nothing really seemed to help. She’d yelp when eating soft food puréed with water, or even for no apparent reason at all. She put a pretty brave face on it, and was otherwise as normal as her mild psychoses would permit, but by Tuesday she was down to less than six and a half pounds and wasn’t even interested in food because it was causing so much pain. So we made the unhappy decision Tuesday morning and took her on her last trip to the vet. The kids were remarkably sanguine about the whole affair, insulated, perhaps, by a youthful inability to comprehend mortal finality. I still feel crummy, though. Goodbye, Two-Face.

Very sorry to hear that. Putting down a member of the family is certainly one of the harder challenges we face as pet owners.

It sucks. A long time ago a coworker told me that he refused to have any pets other then goldfish. His reason: because they break your heart when they die. We’ve got pets nonetheless, of course, but, sadly, his reasoning was sound.

Actually, she loved chocolate-covered doughnuts and Ding Dongs. Weird, eh? She went nuts over them; would even steal them right out of your hand if she got the chance. Chewed right through a plastic bag to get at some doughnuts once, even.

Hmmm thought about having fake donut chocolate tested as the vector. You could provide the answers to a lifelong Veterinarian mystery

They may break your heart at times like these but they capture it in life. Our dog is getting along in years and I dread the day we lose him but I wouldn’t give up all the joy he has brought us over the years. So sorry to hear about your pet but I’m sure she wouldn’t have wanted her donuts served anywhere else.

That’s a really good way to put it. Thanks, Ang. That helps. |
