And if the owner was short on gas he'd only order the bare minimum to get by for a day or two and then order again when he had a little more liquidity. Out of self-preservation when he would pull that stunt with the gas we'd cash our paychecks at the cash register as soon as we got them since there was a good chance that the paycheck would bounce if you took it to the bank.
